Abstract: Sociometer Theory defines the essence and function of self-esteem from the perspective of Evolutionary psychology and Symbol Interaction Theory. At present, related researches involve essential viewpoints, theoretical assumptions and empirical studies currently on the Sociometer Theory. Moreover, the paper points that the theory tends to lay more emphasis on interpersonal influence upon self-esteem resulting in a neglect of others. therefore, only a merge of theories can modify Socimeter Theory.
