Abstract: The ERP studies on prospective memory concerns two major aspects: neural basis and cognitive processing mechanism. The results on neural basis are as follows. Two-specific ERP components (N300 and prospective positivity) are elicited by prospective memory; Similar retrieval processes may sub-serve prospective and retrospective memory, but there are processes unique to prospective memory; There may be a different kind of neural mechanism of the older adults’ prospective memory. What’s more, the ERP studies on cognitive processing mechanism mainly provide evidences to support the preparatory attentional processes and memory processes theory.
