From Task Performance to Social Interaction: Mechanisms Underlying the Influence of Workplace Multitasking on Social Behavior

摘要: 在人工智能蓬勃发展、经济增速放缓以及互联网普及的共同影响下,多任务处理已成为职场普遍现象。以往研究探索了多任务处理对自身任务行为的影响机制,却忽视了多任务处理对本人及重要他人(如同事)的社会行为(如组织公民行为)的影响。为此,本研究将聚焦多任务处理对社会行为的影响机制,分为以下两部分展开:首先,构建多任务处理的过程导向维度结构,并在此基础上开发相应测量工具(研究1);其次,分别探讨多任务处理对本人及重要他人社会行为的影响机制(研究2与研究3)。通过上述三项研究,我们期望拓展多任务处理的关键后果及其影响对象的范围,从而为相关管理实践提供更具深度与时效性的启示。

Abstract: Amid the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, slowing economic growth, and the widespread use of the Internet, multitasking has become a prevalent feature of the modern workplace. While previous studies have examined how multitasking affects the task-related behaviors of multitaskers, they have largely overlooked its impact on the social behaviors of multitaskers and their significant others (e.g., coworkers), such as organizational citizenship behaviors. This study focuses on the mechanisms through which multitasking influences social behavior and comprises two main components. First, it aims to construct a process-oriented dimensional structure of multitasking and develop a corresponding measurement tool (Study 1). Second, it seeks to explore the mechanisms through which multitasking affects the social behaviors of both the multitaskers themselves and their significant others (Study 2 and 3). Through these three studies, we aim to broaden the understanding of the key consequences of multitasking and its range of influence, thereby offering more in-depth and timely insights for relevant management practices.
