A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SEMANTIC COMPREHENSION AMONG HAN, TIBETAN, DONGXIANG, BONAN, YUKU AND KAZAK CHILDREN AGED FROM 7 TO 9

Abstract: The study tested Han, Tibetan, Dongxiang, Yuku, Kazak children aged 7, 8 and 9, by using three different types of Chinese sentences. The purpose of the study is to compare the difference of children of ea- ch minority in semantic comprehension of Chinese, and the causes of the differences. The results reveal that: (1) under bilingual circumstances, based on different motivational factors the effect of second language learning in the children of six nationalities aged from 7 to 9 are affected when comprehending the three types of sentences; (2) on the changing relationships between spoken and written language, minority children who learn Chinese material which is not their mother tongue, first face to written language; (3) the difference of cultural development not only ex- ists in nationalities among variant places, but a also exists in the same nationality distributed in variant places; (4) it can be studied as a key problem in solving bilingual teaching, and fruther analyze the concrete characteristics of the use of bilingual language of minority children.
