Abstract: Based on the classical test theory, the traditional setting methods are grade point or specified cut-off scores, with reference to test result. Thus the setting methods of cut-off score, far from efficient and precise, urgently need to be improved. Bookmark method based on item response theory, can set up multiple cut scores, which accord to the ability parameter of test materials and the quantitative relation between the percentage we grasped and ability level due to testee, more efficient and accurate compared to the traditional methods of setting. This paper discussed the traditional methods’ experimental situation and deficiency, and reviewed the basic principle, specific application methods and prospect of Bookmark method. Future work should systematize the specific application methods and focus on reliability study, validity study and the research of standard error estimate and the response probability of item study.
