Abstract: The present article proposes a fuzzy set model for categorical judgment. Its main assumptions are as follows: 1. The psychological continuum can be divided into categories and thecategory boundaries are fuzzy. 2. There is a correspondence degree between the given object andeach of the categories. Its mathematical model is Next,a type of new category scale called multistage evaluation methodhas been proposed according to the model, and two kinds of concrete scalingand a method of ranking order through multiple cuts have been given. Last, the results obtained by multistage evaluation method show that itgets more information than classical categorical scale does, and the descriptionof psychological conditions and processes are more perfect and finer.
