INFANTS' DETOUR BEHAVIOR:DEVELOPMENTALCHARACTERISTICS AND LEARNING ABILITY

Abstract: This study tested 244 infants on their detour behavior by eliciting infants to reach for a toy in a roundabout way with a standardized procedure in the lab. The results showed: (a) From 8-month-old to 11-month-old, the level of infants' detour behavior increased gradually. (b) lnfants in the 8- to 11- month-old age range could learn successfully detour behavior after repeated trials: moreover,9-or10-month-old infants were move likely to benefit from beforehand trials than 8-month-old infants. (c) The speed of learning increased with the increase of the infants' age.
